Westbourne Remembers

Published: 08 November 2020

The Parish of Westbourne held a scaled-back remembrance service on Sunday 8 November 2020 at the War Memorial at St John the Baptist Church in Westbourne.

Cllr Nigel Ricketts said: "Today's service was very different. When I arrived there, the church bell rang a single repeated note. There followed a reading from Revd Andrew Doye and then the laying of the wreaths. Then we had a two minutes silence followed by a further prayer and lastly the Lords prayer. It was attended by a smaller than usual congregation to maintain social distancing."

Cllr Ricketts laid a wreath at the war memorial on behalf of the Parish Council with the following wording:

'You gave your lives for freedom of the world. Westbourne remembers. You are not forgotten.'

Many people around the UK privately paid their respects at home this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Parish Council also awarded resident Glynis Lockley a Community Chest grant of £100 to deliver afternoon tea to elderly residents in Westbourne on Remembrance Sunday.
