New playground

The former recreation ground at Mill Road in Westbourne has been transformed by Westbourne Community Trust, with an additional investment of £110k from the Parish Council. This is part of the Trust's project to provide new affordable homes at the newly named Hitchcock Close (at the very end of Mill Road in Westbourne).

The new playground includes a multi-use games court with football goals posts and basketball/netball hoops, a pump track for skateboards, scooters and bikes, two sets of swings, a climbing frame, a springer rocking frog and a sit on snail. A jogging track has been installed around the edge of the park and there is access to Westbourne Primary School so that they can use the facilities. There are also three picnic benches and some items of fitness equipment.

Cllr Nigel Ricketts, Chairman of the Parish Council, said: "We'd like to thank Westbourne Community Trust for providing the new playground and we commend all members of the Trust for their outstanding work and commitment to improving local housing and facilities.

"We're really pleased with the refurbished playground which is a fantastic space for children and families to enjoy. There are some great new pieces of equipment and I'm sure the pump track and court will be very well used. The Council has plans to install more items of equipment in the future as funding allows."

The Trust has also built a much needed storage building at the allotment site which will be used by the Parish Council and Westbourne Allotment Association. The playground has been leased to the Parish Council who will manage and maintain the site.
