Tree champions

The Parish Council has a number of volunteer tree champions who play an active role in conserving trees and woods across the Parish. They also support the planting of new trees and helping the saplings to flourish, working with other local organisations.

In recent years, tree champions have planted new trees at the recreation ground at Monk's Hill and along the grass verges of Churcher, Homefield and Edgell Roads in Westbourne. Before any planting is carried out, permission needs to be given by the land owner.

Being a good tree champion is more to do with attitude rather than knowledge, as training is available as well as learning from others. Tree champions work closely with the Parish, District and County councils, Greening Westbourne and local residents to plan and care for the trees.
