Bags of rubbishWestbourne was given a spring clean on Sunday 7 April by 20 residents who volunteered to pick up litter across the village. Equipped with hi-vis vests, gloves, bags and trigger-activated litter pickers, the volunteers collected many bags of rubbish that had been previously littering the streets and hedgerows. The annual spring clean day is run by Westbourne Parish Council and has been held for the last six years.

Cllr Richard Hitchcock, Chairman of the Parish Council, said: "I would like to thank everyone who gave up a couple of hours of their Sunday afternoon to come and help us clean up the village. Filling so many large bags of rubbish is a great achievement and makes our village an even nicer place to live."

The 20 volunteers were Wendy Shutler, Christine Adsett, Martin Yallop, Barbara Reeves, John Reeves, David Mack, Celia Shannon, Sally Wilson, Clare Kennett, Helen Barlow, Dave Lee, Emily Cowdry, Theo Cowdry, Harry Cowdry, Ian Campbell, Andrew Doye, Karen Doye, David Newson, Anne Newson and Richard Hitchcock.
