Election of councillors

Published: 04 April 2023

Chichester District Council has informed the Parish Council that there is an uncontested election in Westbourne on Thursday 4 May 2023.

This means that the number of candidates who were validly nominated when the receipt of nominations closed on Tuesday 4 April were lower than the number of vacancies to be filled, and therefore were declared to be elected as unopposed. A quorum had been achieved (three councillors or one third of the total seats, whichever is the greater).

Elected parish councillors

The parish councillors that were elected are as follows:

Omolade Barker, Roy Briscoe, Kim Franks, Jane Gould, Richard Hitchcock, Nigel Ricketts and Laura Veltom.

Co-option to fill vacancies

Legislation requires that the Parish Council shall co-opt qualified people to fill the two remaining seats. This will be done at the first meeting of the Parish Council on Thursday 18 May. If the vacancies are not filled within a seven week period, it will be necessary to set a date for a further election to fill those vacancies.

If you are interested in joining the Parish Council to help get the very best for Westbourne, you are welcome to attend the Parish Council meeting on Thursday 18 May to be co-opted. This is the process of electing councillors following an election, and you would be invited to speak for two minutes to explain your reasons for wanting to join. The Parish Council would then carry out a vote, and if successful, you would be able to join the Parish Council.
