New street names

Published: 17 September 2024

Westbourne Parish Council has agreed on two new street names for the new development of nine houses off Monk's Hill in Westbourne which have been submitted to Chichester District Council as part of their consultation.

The Parish Council would like to thank residents for the names they put forward which were considered by members at the Full Council meeting on 12 September. Members discussed that naming a road after Richard Hitchcock would be best for Westbourne Community Trust to consider for the new affordable housing development near Mill Road as he had been heavily involved in the project. It was also discussed that the Council had already planted a tree for Tim Peake who had also opened the renovated playground on Monk's Hill in 2018.

The names that were selected were:

  • Rule Road: Margaret Rule was involved in the raising of the Mary Rose, and her son, Nick Rule, both who lived at the Mill in Westbourne, did a lot of environmental work to protect the River Ems and operated the sluice gate at the Mill for many years to prevent the village from flooding.
  • Randall Way: Brian Randall lived in Woodmancote and had served in the RAF. He was involved in a local youth organisation and football club which gave local young people opportunities.
